Learn about Ayurveda:

In January, we studied Ayurveda for our Yoga Teacher Training. This "sister science" of yoga helps us understand our tendencies and then find balance through diet, activities, and mindfulness. You can learn more and determine your dosha through the resources online at the Ayurvedic Institute.

Trends in Wellness:

Check out the MindBody Wellness Index if you're curious about trends in health and wellness during the pandemic, and what we expect in 2021. Through their extensive polling and data collection, MindBody named Washington D.C. the 5th Healthiest City. "Washington is one of the most well-rested cities, ranking third with 65% of residents who say they get 7-8 hours of shuteye a night. DC residents are close with friends and family and connected to their neighborhoods and communities, as well, ranking fourth in both. When it comes to physical wellness, DC residents are dedicated, with 79% working out at least once a week."

Yoga beyond the mat:

'Embrace Yoga's Roots' by Susana Barkataki is a fantastic guide for yogis looking to understand and honor the depths of yoga. How do we respect and share yoga in a way that is not abusive cultural appropriation? How does a social justice approach to yoga work in modern western society? These questions and so much more are covered in this powerful book. We highly recommend giving it a read.
