Finding Balance in Vata
Ayurveda, “the science of life,” is a healing system that examines physical constitution, emotional nature, and spiritual outlook in the context of the universe. It dates back 5,000 years to ancient Sanskrit texts, Vedas. The doshas are three different energies that create the universal life force: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
As the fall blows in with cooler weather, changing leaves, and a desire for grounding, we see the energy of Vata take hold in qualities like dry, cold, light, and subtle. In the body and mind, the Vata dosha brings creativity, joy, touch, respiration, and movement of thoughts and feelings. An imbalance Vata may be experienced as dry skin, constipation, anxiety, and cracking joints. This is not an exhaustive list of Vata qualities, actions, or imbalances.
Here are five tips to help you balance Vata this fall season
Eat warm and cooked meals (oatmeal, stew, baked sweet potatoes)
Drink warm liquids (tea, Golden Milk)
Stay warm and cozy with socks and blankets
Grounding and warming movement (gentle yoga)
Self-massage with warm oils
May you find your balance this fall season.
