Yoga Heights is made up of students who are fascinating people.  We are excited to introduce you to them one by one via the blog!Meet Emily!Yoga Heights: Why do you practice yoga?Emily: Yoga is challenging but so rewarding. It has helped me build muscle, especially in my core, and it has improved my flexibility. Yoga makes me feel great by keeping me grounded and feeling relaxed. YH: Tell us about your first experience at Yoga Heights.Emily: My first class was "back to basics". It gave me the slow instruction I needed, so that I could relearn the positions and get back into it. I was able to challenge myself more if I wanted to or less, but I was in control of my practice which I think is important. The instructor was supportive and hands-on, but not too much. YH: What classes do you go to at YH and why?Emily: I go to the back to basics, All Levels Flow and Fusion Flow mostly.YH: What do you do when you're not on the mat?Emily: I'm usually hanging out with my husband, getting together with friends and enjoying good meals.I also enjoy the outdoors. In the Summer and Fall, I like to go camping with friends. And, I really enjoy traveling, because you get to learn about a new place, the people, and the culture. I'm also a part of an organization called FairVote based in Takoma Park. I'm their digital communications manager, so I help with social media campaigns, edit the website and work on video production, which I'm passionate about. As an organization, we are working on electoral reform, mainly Ranked Choice Voting, which allows you to rank candidates in order of preference instead of choosing just one. It was used in Maine in November, and is also being used in cities across the country. And, it would improve the Montgomery County elections! YH: Where did you grow up?Emily: I grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota.YH:What neighborhood do you live in now? People love to know about their neighbors!Emily: I live in Maryland, near Fedex Field, but work in Takoma Park just down the street from one of the Yoga Heights studios.
