By Beth DaRinAre you interested in becoming a yoga teacher, or simply want to deepen your yoga practice, but have questions about the program? Nervous about balancing a full-time job on top of the time commitment of yoga teacher training? This series, “My Yoga Teacher Training Story,” is for YOU! Hear from past participants of the Yoga Heights Yoga Teacher Training program on why they chose to sign up, their experience in the program, and how it has changed their lives. Yoga Heights: When did you complete your Yoga Teacher Training?Beth: I completed by 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Yoga Heights in 2018!YH: Why did you decide to sign up for YTT?B: Honestly, it was kind of on a whim.  I was already a member of Yoga Heights, read about the training and just went for it!  I had thought about doing something similar to deepen my practice for a long time but I was nervous that I didn't have a strong enough personal practice (I can't do a headstand which I was putting a lot of importance on).  Jess Pierno was so kind and welcoming, however, that I definitely felt like being a skilled yogi didn't have much or anything to do with being a wonderful teacher.YH: What is your favorite memory from your teacher training?B: It's hard to pinpoint a single memory, but my favorite take away from teacher training has been the friendships and the sense of community that I have found at Yoga Heights.  There were many times in trainings when Jess and Angela would need to loudly get our attention because we were all laughing too much.  There were many side dates when we would get together outside of the scheduled trainings to practice teach or just get a drink.  Now when I go to classes, there is almost always at least one person at the studio who I know and want to hug.  It has made Yoga Heights feel like MY studio, like another home.YH: What was the most challenging part of your teacher training?B: Opening up and being vulnerable.  I am a teacher (of children) already and silly me I thought that a lot of aspects of Yoga Teacher Training would come easily to me.  In our training, we did learn about public speaking, lesson planning, muscle groups and different aspects of yoga, but I was surprised by how much emphasis was put on, for lack of a better term, our souls.  We did a ton of sharing and emotional work, which doesn't come easily to me, but in the end has been so beneficial to me as a person.YH: What one piece of advice do you have for yogis considering signing up for Yoga Heights Yoga Teacher Training?B: Go in with an open mind.  You may get more than you bargained for.

Join us in sending a warm welcome to our 2018-19 class of teacher trainees who start training next weekend!!
