Each year countless people pledge some sort of "New Year's Resolution." For some, this is proceeded with epic planning and goal setting. For others, it bubbles up from journaling; getting thoughts out of the head and onto paper. And then there are folks who just simply decide: I want to do more yoga in 2020.

Okay. More yoga. Great! Now what?

Here are 8 ideas to help you achieve "more yoga" in coming months. Just remember, we honor the yoga practice for all it teaches us, ON and OFF the mat and this gives you a bit of wiggle room for the times when you're a bit under the weather and staying in bed is better for you than dragging your butt into the studio for class (see #8).

1. KITTEN YOGA! Join Yoga Heights and the Humane Rescue Alliance...and a whole bunch of fluffy, cute, adoptable kittens. There are 4 sessions between now and October.

2. Join Britney Spears on her yoga journey. She's telling everyone that she's going to be doing a lot more yoga in 2020. Plus, she gives you permission to wear your sneakers while practicing.

3. Visit a (local) ashram. You don't have to go to India (although you can; #7) to get away from it all and join an intentional yoga community. Visit Yogaville in Buckingham, Virginia for a day, a weekend, or even longer.

4. Bust out of your regular yoga practice with one of Yoga Height's awesome workshops. There is something for everyone - from beginners to those with longer tenure on the mat.

5. Meditation is an important component of yoga practice. You might consider down loading one of Tara Brach's guided meditations or attending her free, weekly meditation class in Bethesda.

6. Take the leap you've been thinking about: Become a yoga teacher through the Yoga Heights summertime 7 week training.

7. Travel. As promised, here are some recommendations for yoga in India. As with any travel, be sure to do your own research and ask smart questions about what is included and what is not.

8. Stuck in bed with a cold? You might enjoy going back in time to explore the roots of 21st century yoga by reading the Bhagavad Gita which, like all great works of literature, can be read on many levels: metaphysical, moral, spiritual, and practical. Check it out!
